Tax Credits and Rebates

In December 2010, Congress passed (under the tax extender bill) tax incentives for federal taxpayers who install qualified, energy efficient retrofits in their home. This encompasses higher efficiency heating, air-conditioning and ventilation equipment. Eligible taxpayers may claim up to $500 in tax credits (subject to caps based on type of equipment being installed). Possible tax credits equal to 10% of costs for installation of high efficiency heat pumps, water heaters or central air units (up to $300 maximum), certified furnaces or hot water boilers (up to $150 maximum) and systems with advanced main air circulation fans (up to $50 maximum).
